IPv6 and Firefox

Friday, May 30th, 2008

In the last few days I made my first tests with IPv6, up to now it’s great to find more and more new features. At the beginning I had a problem to visit IPv6 pages like ipv6.google.com with the firefox. When I used the safari there wasn’t a problem and the ping6 ipv6.google.com was also successful. If you have the same problem you should do the following.

  1. Open firefox
  2. about:config
  3. Search for “network.dns.disableIPv6″
  4. This value is true but you should change it to false
  5. After that you problem is solved and firefox can resolve IPv6 dns requests

Try IPv6!!!

Scroogle instead of Google

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Every time you use goolge they keep this information a long time. At the moment google is everywhere. It is not only a search engine with email accounts an you private page. Firefox use google to validate the page you want to visit. Of course this is a nice feature, but in my opinion this company gets too much information about you.

However I hope you don’t misunderstand me, because I think google is a great company, but you shouldn’t give them all infos they want. One point how you can use the quality of google but don’t give them too much information is to use Scroogle as search engine. In the background they use google too, but without sending cookies and they save the history only 48h.
