Visit IPv4 pages with native IPv6

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Today there are only a few ISP’s that provide native IPv6 addresses to their customers. In switzerland cyberlink.ch is an example for such an ISP. However if you are one of the lucky guys who has such an provider you are faced to another problem, because now you can use IPv6 services and visit IPv6 pages but you can’t visit IPv4 pages or use IPv4 services.

One solution is to add the following prefix to each IPv4 page you want to visit:
*.sixxs.org

For example:
http://blog.avetter.ch.sixxs.org/

With this great service it’s really easy to switch to an IPv6 address. You don’t have to worry about a tunnel to the IPv4 Network and no extra tools are needed. I think this is really the simplest way to use IPv4 over IPv6.
